President Zelensky said he was willing to meet his counterpart Vladimir Putin in Türkiye after President Trump urged the two sides to hold direct talks.
"We are waiting for a full and lasting ceasefire, starting tomorrow, to provide the necessary basis for diplomacy. There is no reason to prolong the casualties. I will wait for Mr. Putin in Turkey on May 15. Face to face," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a social media post on May 11, referring to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
The Ukrainian leader did not say whether he would attend the meeting if Russia refused to implement a 30-day ceasefire proposed by Kiev and its European allies. Andriy Yermak, the head of the Ukrainian president's office, said that Mr. Zelensky would only sit down at the negotiating table if Moscow agreed to a ceasefire starting on May 12.
